When are the best sunsets for my senior portraits? I get asked this a lot just before my senior portrait calendar opens, because sunset photography is such a recognized part of my senior portrait work. But there's no real answer - sunsets are equally lovely year-round! To prove this to you, I have created collages by month of the sunsets I photographed in the summer into fall of 2024 (of the Class of 2025) and you can see, all are beautiful.
Most varieties of sunsets can make beautiful senior portraits - from full, bright sun, to overcast skies. As long as we have just a sliver of light, I can do wonders with it.
Sometimes seniors worry that they won't get a pretty sunset on their senior photoshoot day. But there's little reason to worry! While I can't promise you the exact type of sunset you may be hoping for, almost all of them photograph beautifully.
I can usually tell if I can edit a darker sunset into something pretty by shifting colors (like some of them below). If I feel that sky and light conditions are not work-able, I can offer you a reschedule date just for that very last few minutes of your photoshoot. Please be flexible! If none of the dates I offer in the immediate future work for you, I can always offer you a date in late October or November (and yes, those sunsets are stunning, too!)
