Every year, I have multiple text or phone conversations on senior portrait day that go something like this, starting a few hours before our start time:
SENIOR: "Lori! The sun isn't shining! Are my pictures still going to be pretty?"
ME: "It's ok! Do not worry. I can get you really beautiful senior portraits in clouds!"
SENIOR: "Are you sure? I'm worried."
ME: "Please don't worry! I promise that you will love your portraits. Just trust me! If it rains on us or gets too dark, we can always just make up that part of your photoshoot. Plus remember I have that Second Chance Sunset mini available if you don't like the sunset you get."
SENIOR: (calms down) "OK! I trust you!"
Here, you can see examples of just how lovely cloudy-day portraits can be - the first set were taken during what would be "Golden Hour" in the park. They are magical! Click on them to see them bigger! Scroll down for examples of senior portraits in the city on overcast days - again, they look beautiful, too.
Now, as you can see from the little text conversation above, there may be times when it gets too dark, or it rains more than a few minutes, and in that case, we may have to regroup and do some of your portraits on another day. I know that isn't ideal if you have gotten your hair or make-up done, but just try to relax about it all, and realize there are some things we cannot control. In the end I always get you portraits that you truly love.
And finally, if we do your portraits in cloudy conditions, and yet you are still dreaming of super sunny sunset portraits, you can choose to do my "Second Chance Sunset" mini. It's a short session where we just repeat your last Golden Hour outfit and I get about 8 images of you on a day we know there will be sun. It's just $75. Sometimes I can get you a date for that pretty close to the rest of your photoshoot; but sometimes we may have to wait for a few weeks for a date that is sunny, and you and I are free. At the bottom of this blog post, you can see an example of a "Second Chance Sunset" shoot that was done in December one year. I started offering this back-up option a few years ago, and it really helps my girls feel less stressed if the clouds roll in.
